Library Rules and Regulations

Conduct prejudicial
to the proper use of Library is forbidden.
- Smoking food and
drinks (includes any sorts of chewing gums) as well as the use of hand
phones or pagers are not allowed in the Library. Wrong doings such as
tapping current from the Library, electricity supply, charging
handsets and any doings related to using the library facilities not
reserved for users are strictly prohibited.
- Silence shall be
observed in the public areas and reading halls at every levels of the
library, hand phones, pager and watch alarms should be switched off
before entering the Library.
- Users of the Library
should be appropriately attired. In order to maintain the good image
of the Library, members are reminded that they must be properly and
decently attired when they are in the Library. For those above 12
years of age are reminded to be in proper attired. Improper attire
includes the following:
- Shirts without sleeves;
- Singlets;
- Mini skirts/shorts (Including
culottes, hot pants, denim shorts, beach shorts, sport shorts) as
long as they are not more than two inches above the top of knee cap;
- Clothes with
indecent words or pictures or exposing the midriffs (except the saree)
transparent.
- Slippers and clogs (does not
include sandals with back straps);
- Tights / bicycle pants above the
knee cap;
- Long tight sarong with high cut;
- Man with long hair.

Seats in the library may
not be reserved.

Library book may not be
removed from the library unless they have been properly issued by a
Library staff.

All books and personal
belongings must be shown to the security guards at the library exits
and whenever required to do so.

No sharp instruments
such as scissor or pen knife, no bags, case or parcel larger than 20cm
x 15cm x 6cm should be brought into the Library.

Any form of discussions,
âverbal fightingâ, meetings or datings, which might distract
surrounding users, the Library Management reserves the right to ask
the following party to leave the Library immediately.

Library smartcards are
not transferable and must be produced whenever requested by security
guards or Library staff.

Library smart cards,
when lost must be reported immediately to the Circulation Counter in
Ground Floor. A fine will be imposed before library proceeds to
replace a temporary card. Please be reminded that the value, in which
the cards carry, will not be replaced.
Members must ensure that items checked out to them are returned or
renewed on or before the date due. Notices will be sent and all
expenses will be bared by the member.

Multilation and theft of
library books are offenses punishable by law and in the case of
Petaling Jaya Community Library; all cases related to stealing of
books will be resulted to one month suspension from using the library
facilities. Repeated cases done by the same person will result into
ONE YEAR suspension.

Fines may be imposed,
library privileges or membership may be suspended or withdrawn for
breach of any of the Library Rules.
Please note that
Library staffs have the right to:
- Ask users to leave
the library if they are inappropriately dressed or are causing
disturbance.
- Remove any book,
file, bag, food or any other personal belongings left on reading
tables.
- Ask a nonmember to
leave the library
