General Rules
  1. Only members of the Petaling Jaya Community Library are allowed to use all the facilities at the library.
  2. Non-members are only allowed into the library for the purpose of reading and carrying out limited research.
  3. Food and drink (including chewing gum) are not allowed inside the library’s reading section.
  4. Any act of stealing electricity to charge a mobile phone, laptop or other electrical devices will be classified as a WRONGFUL ACT.
  5. Do not make noise or cause any disturbance inside the library. Mobile phones and gadgets must be put on silent or vibration mode before entering the premises.
  6. Smoking is strictly not allowed within the library area.
  7. All library members are required to dress decently. Members above the age of 12 are not allowed to wear:
    • Sleeveless attire
    • Singlet
    • Mini gown / shorts / skirts above the knee
    • Apparel with obscene wording or images, see-through clothing or clothing exposing body parts (except saree)
    • Torn and untidy clothes
    • Tight pants or high slit skirts or revealing outfits
    • Long hair (for males) unless properly tied
  8. No reservations are allowed for seating space. Maximum four (4) persons per table and one (1) person per individual reading space.
  9. Library books must not be taken out unless properly borrowed at the Circulation Counter or self-service terminal.
  10. Revision books are not allowed to be removed from the 3rd floor unless permission is granted by the officer-in-charge.
  11. All books and personal belongings must be shown to the officer-in-charge upon leaving the premises or when requested.
  12. Visitors are not allowed to damage library property (scribbling, cutting or damaging books, magazines, newspapers or audio-visual materials). Stern action will be taken.
  13. Handiwork or crafts are not allowed at the reading tables.
  14. Visitors are forbidden to bring bags (except handbags, laptop bags and valuables), umbrellas, packages, helmets, knives, scissors or sharp objects. Storage space is provided outside the main door at your own risk.
  15. The library is not responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings.
  16. Group discussions, verbal arguments, gambling, betting, disruptive meetings or suspicious behaviour are not allowed. Management has the right to request members to leave without explanation.
  17. Users are not allowed to shift chairs, tables or furniture from their original positions.
  18. Members must return or renew borrowed materials before or on the due date. Reminder letters will be issued and all related costs (late fines or lost books) will be borne by the member.
  19. Action will be taken against all types of crime. In theft cases, membership will be suspended for a period determined by management and the member will not be allowed to use the library facilities. Measures include:
    1. If a student or working individual:
      • A report will be sent to the school or organisation
      • A report will be sent to the family residence
      • A police report will be made
    2. A fine will be imposed and membership may be terminated or access denied if rules are violated.
  20. Librarians and security personnel have the right to:
    • Request improperly dressed or disruptive members to leave
    • Shift or remove books, files, bags, food or personal belongings left unattended
    • Order NON-MEMBERS to leave at any time if necessary
  21. Members are allowed to bring and use laptops according to stipulated rules.
  22. Parking spaces are reserved for library users only.
