Petaling Jaya Book Club<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A pro-tem committee with Tan Sri Soong Siew Hoong as chairman was appoited on October 13, 1987 to look into th registration of the Petaling Jaya Book Club, as the library was to be called, under the Societies Act 1966. The purpose of the club was to foster good reading habits among the people of Petaling Jaya MBPJ by providing a conducive space for reading and borrowing books. In line with its commitment to setting up thepublic library, MBPJ temporarily houses the Book Club on the second floor of its building in Petaling Jaya.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On April 1, 1993, MBPJ officially took over operations of the Petaling Jaya Book Club and renamed it the MBPJ Library. This acquisiton clearly showed the firm commitment of the MBPJ towards intellectual development that was in tandem with the physical development of Petaling Jaya. Library membership reaching over 25,000 and the collection of books and materials growing from year to year, the temporary premises on the second floor of the MBPJ building became unsuitable.<\/p>

In December 1995, the multi-purpose hall on Jalan Selangor made way for the contruction of a RM12 million, four-storey library complex that, due to unavoidable technical difficulties, took four and a half years to complete. The MBPJ library was renamed the MBPJ Community Library (PKPJ) and it moved into new building in December 1999.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The community library started operations on April 4, 2000 and was officially opened by the Selangor Menteri Besar, YAB. Dato’ Seri Dr. Mohamad Khir Toyo, on March 14, 2002 (29 Zulhijah 1422H).<\/p><\/blockquote>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A People Orientated Building<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The new library was designed, talking into account members and visitors who are from all walks of life. Among the features are a special ramp leading to the main entrance for disabled members, two elevators servicing the four floors and movies station to provide members with an alternative to reading. There are also attractive rock gardens and other landscaping features to provide a comfortable and conducive environment for individuals and families alike.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
